Pakistan has reached the final stage of the second phase of its 5G spectrum auction, with telecom companies currently bidding for positions in the 3500 MHz frequency band.
The process was officially launched by IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, along with the IT Secretary and the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
This initiative is part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to introduce 5G technology and strengthen digital connectivity for both businesses and consumers across the country.
Earlier, PTA Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman confirmed that the bidding process for the 2600 MHz frequency band has already been completed successfully. Telecom operators have finalized their allocations for this band, and the official results will be announced after the bidding for the 3500 MHz band concludes.
Once both stages are completed, the government will announce the results for the 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz spectrum bands together. These results will determine which telecom operators obtain the rights to use these frequencies to roll out 5G services nationwide.
The 5G spectrum auction is considered a major milestone for Pakistan’s telecommunications sector. It is expected to enable faster and more reliable internet connectivity while supporting emerging technologies such as smart cities, digital banking, and industrial automation.
With the auction now entering its final phase, anticipation is growing within the telecom industry and among the public. The final outcome will play a key role in determining the speed, coverage, and quality of 5G services across Pakistan, bringing the country closer to becoming a fully 5G-enabled digital economy.
