The Punjab government has proposed purchasing 108 new vehicles this fiscal year at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.14 billion. The vehicles are intended for ministers, senior officials, and inspection teams to support official duties.
The proposal, submitted to the provincial cabinet, details allocations including 28 cars for cabinet members, two bulletproof 4×4 vehicles for ministers, and 25 vehicles dedicated to VIP security. The remaining vehicles will serve various departments for inspections and official transportation.
Officials emphasize that updated vehicles are essential for smooth operations, safe travel, and efficiency, especially during inspections, official meetings, and other government tasks. Cabinet approval is required before the procurement process begins, which will include selecting vendors and acquiring the vehicles.
While the plan has raised discussions regarding its cost, government representatives highlight that the investment aims to improve administrative efficiency, not personal luxury. Transparency and accountability measures will guide the procurement to ensure proper use of public funds.
With modern vehicles, ministers, senior officials, and inspection teams are expected to perform their duties more effectively and securely, benefiting operational capacity across departments.
