Google has announced one of the biggest updates to Google Maps in the past decade. The update introduces a new AI feature called “Ask Maps” and an enhanced 3D navigation system, making travel more interactive and user-friendly.
The Ask Maps feature is powered by Gemini, Google’s advanced AI model. Users can ask detailed questions in natural language—such as where to find restaurants, coffee shops, or attractions along a route—and receive personalized suggestions based on location and preferences.
Immersive Navigation provides a detailed 3D view of roads, buildings, and surroundings while driving or walking. The system highlights important road details, including traffic lights, lane guidance, and pedestrian crossings.
Additional improvements include enhanced voice directions, better route insights, and easier parking navigation. The new features will initially roll out in the United States and India, with plans to expand globally as the technology becomes available.
This update represents a major leap in AI-powered navigation, combining real-time insights, personalization, and interactive 3D mapping to improve travel and commuting experiences worldwide.
